Saying Hello and Waving

I had heard his statement before.  The importance of connecting to people by just a simple hello, wave or smile.  We could make them or break them by either choosing to acknowledge another human, or to ignore them completely as if they did not even exist.  The man was Hopi and I enjoyed speaking with him tremendously.  Very seldom do I connect with people on such a deeply spiritual level.  Most people don't even go there.

So, today as I am getting back into the swing of things, this "back to reality" of mine and finally getting out there walking again, I decided that every person I see I will wave, smile or say hi to.  Mind you, this is So Cal, where such behavior is not typically done, acknowledged or even tolerated. It worked out well so far, for today.  Only one person did not even look my way.  They pretended I wasn't there as they focused their eyes straight ahead, intent on driving, I suppose.  I know, because I have been there, though I am trying to change.

Connecting to other humans is an important part of existence.  We think we don't need anyone else, but we all do.  I can't think of anywhere on this planet where we haven't connected with others in some way or another.  Anything you buy from a store was made by other humans and even if the plant it was made in is fully automated, who made the machines?  Who watches over them for quality control?

If you stay at home and watch TV thinking I don't need anyone, I don't want to be around anyone, you are still reaching out and trying to connect with people by the simple fact that those are humans on TV, talking and interacting. A human was involved in the creation of the TV show you are watching and YOU ARE CONNECTING.  The way you are connecting is not as fulfilling as it could be.

Have you ever really connected with another human?  I mean really connected?  Most connections are somewhat one-sided, but those connections where both people are really aware of what's happening and getting the most out of the situation for the benefit of all are beyond fantastic!  It's almost like you don't want to have to leave that person, but you know deep down inside that there are many other people, tons of other people that you can truly try to connect with, so you move on hoping for another great connection.

I met a lot of people on my trip back east.  I made an effort to try to "get them", to try to understand where they are coming from.  Some I didn't "get" and others oh what wonderful memories.  I still hold their memory in my heart and think of them and wish them the best.  The others, I keep trying to figure them out.  I want only the best for people, and I hope that we can all be a little more aware of each other, we are on this journey together, after all.

So to all the people I have truly connected with on various levels at different times, I love you, I miss you and wish that soon we can connect again.  To all the people who I have tried to connect with and failed, I won't give up!  I will try again, in the hopes of one day truly connecting with you. And, to all the people who don't know I exist, or pretend to not know of my existence; one day we will need to connect for some reason or other, and I hope that it will only be good for all involved and that the connection will be great!

Don't forget to acknowledge others with a greeting, wave or smile.  Try it!  You might actually like it!  You do have a great smile, by the way.
