Do You Care to Know?

Not many people ponder the meaning of life.  I always have as far back as I can remember.  Why are we here?  What's it all about? Most people really don't care to know.

I have met many people in my life, believed many different things.  I have been super "religious" dedicating my life to the spiritual.  I have lived as a "heathen".  I guess that's what most people would call it? I am not sure. What I am trying to say is I have been at both ends of the spectrum and in the middle parts at various times in my life.

I do know, and have seen what is called karma in my life and in other people's lives.  What does the song say? What goes around comes around?  We are taught to love one another as we love ourselves, the great golden rule. No good deed goes unpunished?  But what is good?  I always ask myself that.  If I lose $100.00 bill, to me that is NOT good.  But what about the woman with hungry children who found that $100.00 bill? Is it that without evil, we cannot possibly know what GOOD is, at least in this existence anyway?

Is there a place where there is only good?  And do the inhabitants know the definition of good or is it just a place where everyone always does good and no darkness is there?  I don't know, but it is hard to fathom a place like that for humanity anyway.  I have seen it in myself the resolve to do only good, and yet the evil seeps out anyway. I have sought to put others before myself and my "self" cries out for notice, saying, "What about ME???"

I don't know all the answers to this existence, but I can tell you that it is much easier to just love people and be open and honest with them, much like a loving parent with children who are still learning.  Of course, many times, my first reaction to being wronged is not even printable.  But right away, past experience and the belief that if I can only rise above the situation, then all will be well, spurs me into forgiving and trying to learn something from what just happened.

Another thing I have learned is that giving people what they think they need is often a hindrance to their growth.  The key here is "what they think they need".  What do we all really NEED? Most people can list what the physical body really needs, some people can list what we need emotionally and spiritually, but I am sure if you look at the list we will see WANTS interspersed with the actual NEEDS.

It is amazing what the human body can go through and the horrors people have suffered at the hand of other people and yet survived.  I often feel like Mr. Magoo going through life blind, oblivious to the harm I cause others, much like someone taking a walk in the park, crushing pill bugs, ants, spiders and snails along the way.  I often tell myself, just because they are smaller and weaker gives me no right to take their life.  Yet Mr. Magoo can tell us something good about his life as well.  He doesn't worry, he just goes.  Oftentimes his ways are paved for him.  It can be humorous and sad at the same time.

We are all on a journey here.  Hopefully we can all see that, and relate life to a long journey. Let us all be as an oasis to each other.  It has often been said, it is better to give than receive.  I sure like receiving, I am sure we all can understand that, but try giving more, it can be so satisfying to know you have made someone's day.  Don't just give physical things, give of yourself emotionally and spiritually to others.  Try listening, really listening to people, animals and all the sounds around you.  Let your mind, will and emotions try to understand this existence we live in.   If you don't have time for that then what do you have time for?
