When We Look Around Us

Sand Magnified - You must look close to see this!

When we look around us, what do we see?  Are we biased in our view?  Why?  Do we sincerely try to see what other people are feeling and try to understand where they are coming from?  What about judging people?  Are we cruel when we make judgments upon others without walking a mile in their shoes?

I have always been able to understand other people's view points almost to a fault.  I suppose you could say I am like Charlie Brown, somewhat wishy-washy at times, not being able to make a firm decision in some instances, while in other situations, I do KNOW what is right and will not budge.

The older I become, the more I realize how blind we all are.  Most of us are obstinate in our beliefs and will not take the time to see the other side.   I could be a grandmother giving infinite wisdom to my children's children, so I will hand out some for free today.

One sign I saw frequently on the freeways across this country was, "Share the Road."  The significance of this sign while driving is of utmost importance.  However, it reminds me of the Kindergarten lesson of taking turns.  It is said that small children do not know the meaning of the word, "share".  We are to tell them to "take turns" and then it will be better understood and more easily embraced.

This can be applied to life.  We can tell people to share the road, or to take turns in life as well as on the road.  Give other people a chance to make an impression in your life.  If you have made up your mind already what you are all about, and what you WILL believe or what you will NOT believe, then what's the use of even living this life?

We CAN agree to disagree, so we should at least give others a chance.  Embrace the differences.  What a sad, ugly world this would be if everything were the same.  I may look like, or act like, say,  your Aunt Josephine, or any other similar person you have met before.  But I am ME.  I am my own person, with my own stuff going on.  Please don't categorize me into any one group, because I will surprise you, and not fit into that group you have so easily placed me in, sooner or later.

Let us all break out of the box we have been placed in and allow other's to do the same.  Let us share the road on this journey.  Let us really look around us at the people and places we are in and try to understand more and to BE more understanding as well!
