He was so cute and so hungry, he actually said, "Peep, peep", as if a human had said it. He looked right at you as if saying, "I AM so adorable, please feed me." My heart melted. I had seen peepers before, and had that same AWWWW feeling. They are just so cute.
We went out again and saw the poor little duckling again, and this time a woman came out and explained all about poor little Buckley. A little boy had gotten the duckling as a peeper and it soon grew out of it's home. The woman brought the duckling there in hopes that he would fit in and survive. She came and fed him every day, AND the little guy's name was Buckley!
One day, the weather took a turn for the worst. It was downright freezing cold, a cold I had NEVER in my life experienced. We worried about the little guy. He was as adorable as ever, and he would not leave our side. He followed us around the whole trail like a baby duckling follows his own mama duck. We felt horrible and had a feeling he wouldn't survive the night.
In the distance we could see a woman smoking a cigarette. We ended up speaking to her. We told her about Buckley. She gave us the strangest look and said, "What did you say?" We told her that we had said his name, Buckley. She said, " I was going to ask you, how did you know my last name? My last name is Buckley." We ALL paused a moment to ponder the wonder of the situation! It turned out she owned a farm and we asked her if she could take him and keep him safe. She scooped little Buckley up and put him down her jacket to keep him warm. She said she had duck food and a perfect place to keep him. So, Buckley the Duckling is now called Buckley Buckley the Duckling!
