How you view the day is how you will experience the day. Many people say that they are having a bad day, but the day is up to you, really! You must make up your mind that you are going to have a good attitude, no matter what happens. You will be tested of course, for whenever we make up our minds to do something or to not do something, then comes the big test. It is important to be flexible when you travel. You literally could have a stroke, or a heart attack if you are not. There are too many variables on the road, weather, traffic, people, animals, people, weather, and more traffic, for us to be too strict about a time-line. You should allow plenty of time to stop, take a break, stretch your legs. Allow others that are traveling with you to do the same. Just because you feel like roaring down the road, others traveling with you may need a break. Sure, it would be great if you were all in sync and could all take a restroom break at the same time and eat at the same time and sleep at the same time, etc. BUT it will not happen.
Consideration and respect are utmost on the road. Consideration for your fellow travelers as well as for the people in the car and on the road with you.
Sometimes there are stretches of road where there is hardly anything for miles. Good planning and making sure everyone in the car is ready to get through it without problems is essential. The key is understanding, understanding that there's not gonna be a bathroom for a couple hours, so DON'T drink that whole bottle of water, or you will be miserable. We have been on stretches of freeway where there is NO off-ramp to get out and stretch. AND Please do not pull over on the side of the freeway, it is way too dangerous.
Getting it in your head that you MUST be flexible, and getting your fellow travelers to grasp this is vital to the sanity of the group. The trip should be fun, memorable and everyone should be friends before, during and afterwards.
If you have a problem with someone's attitude it may be best to bite your lip unless you have a good way of letting them know. I like to tell stories. Once upon a time there was a boy who called wolf too many times and... Sometimes my stories get my message across, and sometimes they don't. Sometimes you just have to tell the person, shut up, we will get there when we get there. Or, I like to talk about lessons I learned in the past and how it relates. Whatever it takes to make the trip more pleasant over all for everyone involved.

Being Bitten By the Travel Bug
Poor guy's probably frantically looking for a restroom. |
It is very true that traveling can be difficult. The main problem is not being able to find a bathroom. And then when you do find one it would have been better to go behind a bush out on the open road. If I were president I would ensure plenty of nice, clean bathrooms across America! Imagine the joy of traveling when there are no worries. Go ahead and drink that Double Espresso and yes even the whole bottle of water too, because there will always be a clean, safe place to pee!
All kidding aside. There is a bug for the unwary and even the wary traveler. You can pick it up just about anywhere. You can wash your hands, stop only at the cleanest of clean places and you can still get it. Now, I'm not talking about the aforementioned Travel Bug. This bug can be a horrible nightmare and daymare if caught. Some people call it food poisoning. There are many "cute" or funny names for this, but when you have it, it IS NOT CUTE or funny.
I am so thankful I did not have any problems with the food on this trip. The only bug I caught this time, and HAVE caught before, was the Travel Bug which is extremely contagious. So among all the bugs out there, just be careful,,,'cause if you go atravelin' you gonna catch this bug!
P.S. Did I forget to mention bed bugs?
A bugs journey, since we're talking about bugs.
